White chocolate pretzels are the perfect combination when you want something sweet and salty. I had a party and made a bowl of these, they were gone in a matter of minutes. These crunchy, chocolatey delights are a definite crowd pleaser. Chocolate pretzels are becoming the new gift giving trend as of 2013. Many people have been giving gift baskets filled with white, milk and dark chocolate covered pretzels in place of plain old truffles. The best thing about these scrumptious treats is that you can make them yourself. These snacks are not only easy to make but they are easy on your wallet as well.
What You Need
There are a few things that you will need when it comes to making white chocolate dipped pretzels. The first thing that you will need is pretzels. The size and shape do not really matter. I prefer to use pretzel rods just because I think they look cuter. Then you will need a package of your favorite chocolate. I used a mixture of Lindt dark chocolate and Belgian white chocolate. Lastly, you will need a bit of shortening. Those are the basic ingredients but if you want to get a little fancy like I did, add some colored sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, crushed coffee beans and anything else that you love to munch on onto your shopping list.
How To Make White Chocolate Covered Pretzels
This is the white chocolate covered pretzels recipe that I use. The first step I took when making my chocolate pretzels was to prepare a baking sheet. I lined it with aluminum wrap but wax paper will work just as well. Then comes the fun part, take your chocolate and shortening and microwave it. I made two kinds. I made a white chocolate and a dark chocolate mixture. Every 10 or 20 seconds it is ideal to stir your mixture to create a smooth consistency. Make sure that there are no lumps. You want to melt your chocolate just enough so that it combines with the shortening. You do not want to overheat the chocolate because then it becomes tough and you will have difficulty using it. Depending on what pretzel shape you are using, you can either use a fork or your hand to dip it into the melted chocolate. Dipping the pretzels was my favorite part. Give the pretzels a little shake to get rid of any extra chocolate and lay it on the prepared sheet.
How To Decorate Your Custom Pretzels
While the chocolate is still wet, take your decorations and sprinkle them on the pretzels. If you have two colors of chocolate you can drizzle it over the pretzels after it has been dipped for a beautiful contrast. Then just pop it in the fridge and in 30 minutes you will have your very own homemade chocolate covered pretzels.
Packaging Your Pretzels
Pretzels dipped in white chocolate or milk chocolate can be packaged in so many unique ways. They can be put in colorful gift baskets for an elegant look. If they are decorated with colorful sprinkles you can wrap them in clear plastic and top it off with a ribbon in the color of your choice. For Christmas, I bought Santa Claus mugs and filled them with white chocolate pretzel sticks with green and red sprinkles. Packaging becomes special when you put thought into your gift giving. It does not have to be expensive it just has to come from the heart.
